In this guide, we\u2019ll show you how to add a blog site as a subdomain of your WordPress Multisite instance. For example, if your main blog\u2019s primary domain is\u00a0<code class=\"docs-code\">example.com<\/code>, you can create new blog sites that use the\u00a0<code class=\"docs-code\">earth.example.com<\/code>\u00a0and\u00a0<code class=\"docs-code\">moon.example.com<\/code>\u00a0subdomains on the same instance.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"docs-note\">\n<p class=\"docs-note\"><span class=\"docs-note-title\">Note<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"docs-para\">You can also add sites using domains to your WordPress Multisite instance. For more information, see\u00a0<a class=\"docs-link\" href=\"https:\/\/lightsail.aws.amazon.com\/ls\/docs\/en_us\/articles\/lightsail-create-static-ip\">Create a static IP and attach it to an instance in Amazon Lightsail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Add your domain to Lightsail by creating a DNS zone, then point it to the static IP that you attached to your WordPress Multisite instance. Continue to the next step to add an address record (A record) to your domain\u2019s DNS zone.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d9yljz1nd5001.cloudfront.net\/en_us\/55a53ddba3c6f330916eddd53905e19b\/images\/wp-multisite-add-blogs-as-subdomains-sites-list.png\" alt=\"Sites list in the WordPress administration dashboard.\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"add-an-address-record-to-your-domains-dns-zone\" class=\"docs-h2\">Add an address record (A record) to your domain\u2019s DNS zone<\/h2>\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Complete these steps to point the subdomain for your new blog site to your WordPress Multisite instance. You must perform these steps for every blog site that you create on your WordPress Multisite instance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"docs-para\">For demonstration purposes, we\u2019ll use the Lightsail DNS zone. However, the steps may be similar for other DNS zones typically hosted by domain registrars.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"docs-procedure\">\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Sign in to the\u00a0<a class=\"docs-link\" href=\"https:\/\/lightsail.aws.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lightsail console<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">On the Lightsail home page, choose the\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">Domains &amp; DNS<\/span>\u00a0tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Under the\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">DNS zones<\/span>\u00a0section of the page, choose the DNS zone for the domain that you defined as the primary domain for your WordPress Multisite instance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">In the DNS zone editor, choose the\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">DNS records<\/span>\u00a0tab. Then, choose Add record.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d9yljz1nd5001.cloudfront.net\/en_us\/55a53ddba3c6f330916eddd53905e19b\/images\/wp-multisite-add-blogs-as-subdomains-dns-zone.png\" alt=\"DNS zone editor in the Lightsail console.\" \/><\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Choose\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">A record<\/span>\u00a0in the record type drop-down menu.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">In the\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">Record name<\/span>\u00a0text box, enter the subdomain specified as the site address when creating the new blog site on your WordPress Multisite instance.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">In the\u00a0<span class=\"docs-guilabel\">Resolves to<\/span>\u00a0text box, choose the static IP address attached to your WordPress Multisite instance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d9yljz1nd5001.cloudfront.net\/en_us\/55a53ddba3c6f330916eddd53905e19b\/images\/wp-multisite-add-blogs-as-subdomains-a-record.png\" alt=\"Adding an address record to the DNS zone in the Lightsail console.\" \/><\/li>\n<li class=\"docs-step\">\n<p class=\"docs-para\">Choose the Save icon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"docs-para\">That is all you need to do.
