Once it open you should see the following screen
You can change the default system fonts to suit your preferences,If you are using LCD screen you need to concentrate on subpixel smooting option under Font rendering you can see this in the following option
Now if you want to see advanced options you need to click on details button once it opens you should see the following screen here you can change the available settings
Install Microsoft Core Fonts
Microsoft Windows comes bundled with a number of core TrueType fonts. Licence restrictions prevent the Microsoft fonts from being distributed directly as part of Ubuntu, but Microsoft does make them available for free download directly from its web site.
Before Installing these fonts you need to make sure you have universe and multiverse repositories in your source list
sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
This will give you the core fonts, but if there are other TrueType fonts that you want installed, it is as easy as copying
the font files to the ~/.fonts/ directory.
Install Windows Truetype fonts
You can download and install thousands of free windows .ttf true type fonts from the web and install and use them in Ubuntu Linux.Once you downloaded the .ttf fonts you need to open file browser using Ctrl-L then type fonts:/// and click Open you can see this in the following screen
Now you should see the following screen Drag your new TrueType font from your desktop or file manager into the font-list window, and it will be automatically installed and made available to applications through Defoma the next time they start up.
Install Ubuntu Title Font
The package ttf-ubuntu-title consists of the font used by Ubuntu’s logo it was made available by Canonical under the LGPL to make rebranding of Ubuntu easier.
sudo apt-get install ttf-ubuntu-title
This will complete the installation and you can enjoy this font from openoffice and GIMP etc
Make your ubuntu fonts smooth
I am taking this tip from here download this file from here and drop in to your home directory renamed to “.fonts.conf” and log out and in again
sudo mv fonts.txt .fonts.conf
Install Macintosh Fonts
If you want to install Macintosh Fonts it is bit difficult because Mac OS embeds extra font information using a special format that Linux can’t read directly you need to convert Macintosh Fonts and then you can copy in to fonts folder
We are going to use fondu utility for our conversion
convert between Mac and UNIX font formats.Fondu is a set of programs to convert between Mac font formats and PFB, TTF, OTF and BDF files on UNIX.
