Edit > Find & Replace
Search for: [:space:]+
Type one space character in the “Replace with:” box, with space key
Options: Regular expressions: YES

Click “Replace all”

That will replace one or more consecutive space characters of any kind (including things like non-breaking spaces) with exactly one plain space.
